The Medical people that were in New Zealand were the first to get sick.
The volunteers that were not trained helped the sick people because 1/3
of doctors and 1/4 of nurses were overseas, and the sick people needed
help. The soup kitchens were set up by some children, The children such as
boy scouts helped prepare, deliver the food and peel the vegetables. Also the
adults drove cars as makeshift ambulances or built coffins for the dead people.
